Named by thousands of strangers
This code comes from the xkcd color survey. In 2010 the web comic artist Randall Munroe showed visitors random colors and asked them to type a name. Over five million colors were named in 222,500 user sessions, his survey results post reports. Mango, #FFA62B, is the point in RGB space where people typed that word most often.

Wikipedia lists different codes. Its alphabetical list gives #FDBE02, and its shades of yellow page shows #FFC800. Both are more yellow than ours, while the survey mango leans orange. The same Wikipedia page says nobody knows when mango was first used as a color name in English.
Compare it with mango tango, a Crayola crayon, or browse the shades of orange. Black text on #FFA62B is easy to read, with a contrast of 10.74 to 1.
