Just another name for screen cyan
Electric cyan has no history of its own. The name is a popular label for #00FFFF, the brightest cyan a screen can make, with green and blue at full power and no red. In CSS that same code has two keywords, cyan and aqua. So on this site cyan and aqua show the exact same color.
The word cyan comes from the Greek kyanos, a dark blue enamel. It was first used as a color name in English in 1879, says the Wikipedia article on cyan.
It won't print
Printer ink cyan is much duller, close to #00B7EB, so a printed page can't match this glow. Use black text on it, which gives a contrast of 16.75 to 1. White text only reaches 1.25 to 1. For softer versions, see the shades of cyan.
