The 100 billionth crayon
Blue Ribbon was a one-time Crayola color made to mark a big number. By 1996 the company had made 100 billion crayons. On February 6, 1996, Fred Rogers of the TV show Mister Rogers' Neighborhood came to the factory and helped mold that crayon.
Crayola made about a million Blue Ribbon crayons and put them in a limited 96 Big Box. Some carried foil labels that won prizes. The grand prize was the real 100 billionth crayon. Its winner sold it back to Crayola for a $100,000 bond, and it went into the company's Hall of Fame in Easton, Pennsylvania. Collectors describe the crayon as a periwinkle blue.
Three different blues
The code #0066FF on this page comes from Name That Color, a free list used by many web tools. It is not the crayon. The Wikipedia list of Crayola colors gives #0B10A2, a deep royal blue. Its main table puts that code next to the numbers 0, 102, 204, which make #0066CC. So even Wikipedia does not agree with itself here. Close to #0066FF are Brandeis blue and azure.
