About shades of red

Red is the color of fire, ripe fruit and stop signs. It grabs attention faster than any other color, so it is used for warnings, sale tags and buttons that must be seen. Light reds turn into pinks and corals, and dark reds become wine, maroon and burgundy.

How to use this page

The cards show the classic red color names from light to dark. Press Show more community names to add hundreds of newer names. Use the filters to keep only light, medium or dark shades, or only muted or vivid ones. Click a swatch to add it to your palette at the bottom of the screen, and click a name to open its color page with all codes and matching colors.

To test a shade as text on a background, open the contrast checker. To make a full 50 to 950 scale from one shade, try the Tailwind scale maker. If you want to make a shade with paint, the color mixer can suggest a recipe.
